Lesson 19 — Taking Away the Devil's Armor

Taking Away the Devil's Armor

Jesus taught that a strong man's house cannot be plundered until the strong man is bound:

Matthew 12:29 — "Or else how can one enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? and then he will spoil his house."

Before a believer can walk in freedom, the enemy's hold must be broken. This lesson examines how to systematically dismantle Satan's strongholds.

Strongholds of the Mind

Paul writes about "casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ" 2 Corinthians 10:5.

A stronghold is a fortress of wrong thinking — beliefs, assumptions, and thought patterns that contradict God's Word. Common strongholds include:

  • Fear — Believing that God will not protect or provide
  • Shame — Believing that past sin defines your identity
  • Rejection — Believing that you are unlovable or worthless
  • Unforgiveness — Believing that your right to anger is greater than God's command to forgive
  • Pride — Believing that you are better than others or that you do not need God

These strongholds are not merely psychological; they are spiritual. Demons reinforce them with lies, memories, and emotions. To break the stronghold, the lie must be replaced with truth.

Binding the Strong Man

Binding the strong man involves:

  1. 1 Identifying the entry point — When did this stronghold begin? What sin, trauma, or decision opened the door?
  1. 2 Repenting and renouncing — Confess the sin, renounce the lie, and break every agreement with the enemy.
  1. 3 Replacing the lie with truth — Find the Scripture that directly contradicts the stronghold. Meditate on it, speak it aloud, and believe it.
  1. 4 Commanding the spirit to leave — In the Name of Jesus, bind the demon and cast it out.
  1. 5 Maintaining the victory — Fill the space with prayer, worship, fellowship, and the Word. Do not leave the house empty.

The Weapons of Our Warfare

Paul says our weapons are not carnal but mighty through God:

2 Corinthians 10:4 — "For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds."

These weapons include prayer, fasting, the Word, praise, testimony, and the blood of Jesus. Each is effective, but together they form an arsenal that no demonic stronghold can withstand.
