Evangelism is often taught as a technique. We memorize outlines, learn responses to objections, and practice door-to-door approaches. These can be useful. But evangelism is ultimately not a technique. It is the overflow of the Father’s heart.
The Father longs for His lost children to come home. Jesus felt this longing when He looked over Jerusalem and said, “How often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing” Matthew 23:37. That is the Father’s heart for the lost.
When we evangelize with the Father’s heart, several things change.
First, our motivation changes. We share the gospel not to win arguments or grow a church. We share because the Father loves people and we love them too. Love is the engine of true evangelism.
Second, our tone changes. The Father does not bully His children home. He woos them. He invites them. He runs to meet them. Evangelism with the Father’s heart is patient, kind, and respectful. It speaks truth without contempt.
Third, our message changes. We do not merely present a list of doctrines. We present a Person — the Father who is eager to welcome sinners. The gospel is not primarily a plan. It is a relationship restored.
Fourth, our confidence changes. We do not carry the burden of converting anyone. The Father draws. The Spirit convicts. Our job is to bear witness. We plant and water; God gives the increase.
Fifth, our expectation changes. We expect that the Father is already at work in the lives of unbelievers. He is pursuing them before we ever open our mouths. We get to join a search that began in heaven.
Evangelism with the Father’s heart is not scary. It is a privilege. We get to tell people the best news in the universe: the Father wants you home.
Memory Verse: 2 Peter 3:9 — The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
Action Step: This week, have one conversation with an unbeliever motivated purely by the Father’s love. No agenda except care.
Exercise: Write a one-minute testimony of how the Father welcomed you home. Practice sharing it aloud.
