Lesson 12 — Why God's Plan for the Needs of Man is Not Realized

If God's plan genuinely includes health, provision, and blessing for His people — and Lesson Ten proved it does — then why are so many sincere, faithful Christians sick, broke, and defeated? That's not a hostile question. It's the most urgent question in practical Christianity. And the Bible gives a clear, specific answer that has nothing to do with God's willingness and everything to do with ours.

Last time we saw that conscience alone cannot contain sin — it took a global flood to reset the trajectory. Now we face a related question: if God's provision is real, what blocks it? The answer is more personal than most people want to hear.

And honestly? Those promises are almost too good to believe. Even spiritually mature believers struggle to fully grasp them—not because the words are difficult, but because it's simply overwhelming that the Living God would make such extravagant provision for us. But it's absolutely true!

No reasonable person can look at these promises and deny what they plainly say. No Christian would dare claim God won't keep His word. But here's where the rubber meets the road: the challenge for believers is actually meeting the conditions for these promises in everyday life.

Let me walk you through some of the most common reasons why people don't experience the full abundance God has provided for them.

1. Christians Have Been Misled by False Teachings

False cults and misguided religious leaders have spread all kinds of harmful ideas. Here are some of the most common ones circulating today:

  • That God wants you poor and struggling so you'll stay saved
  • That you're destined for defeat and powerless against sin, sickness, and failure
  • That pain and suffering are everyone's lot—secretly blessings in disguise
  • That you must sin daily in thought, word, or deed, and no one can truly live holy
  • That you should just accept these conditions as normal for everyone
  • That trying to overcome these problems shows pride and rebellion against God
  • That the age of miracles has ended
  • That healing isn't part of the atonement or God's will
  • That the baptism of the Holy Spirit and spiritual gifts were only for the apostles
  • That inspiration has ceased and we don't need supernatural confirmation of God's Word today
  • That all supernatural manifestations are just "the flesh"
  • That expecting God to do everything you ask is foolish rebellion
  • That humans aren't free moral agents
  • That God is responsible for your circumstances and whether you're saved or lost

These false doctrines fill thousands of pulpits today. Is it any wonder there's so much unbelief? Is it any wonder Christianity is plagued with confusion and bitter arguments over teachings that should be clear and unified?

This chaos wouldn't exist if everyone who claims to follow Christ would set aside church traditions and personal opinions, and simply return to wholehearted acceptance of the Bible—committing to obey whatever truth they find there.

Anyone can improve their life and experience health, happiness, and prosperity by doing this. The Bible is simple and clear. Even if your pastor won't preach the truth, you can discover it yourself by reading Scripture. If you can read what it says, you can believe what it says—so there's no excuse for not knowing God's truth personally.

Not one of these false teachings has any scriptural support. The promises we've studied in Lessons Ten, Twelve, Fourteen, and Sixteen disprove every single one. If people choose Satan's lies over God's truth, let them settle for their current lot. Let them refuse the gospel's power to transform their lives. Let them dishonor God's character with false doctrine—judgment will come in due time. Let them endure suffering they don't have to bear, when they could simply turn to God and His truth.
