Module 7: The Spirit's Mission
10 min read
Jesus' ministry was marked by healing and deliverance. He opened blind eyes, cleansed lepers, raised the dead, and cast out demons. These were not random displays of power. They were signs that the kingdom of God had arrived.
The Spirit continues this ministry through the church. Believers are commissioned to heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, and drive out demons Matthew 10:8. These are kingdom signs — previews of the resurrection world where suffering and evil will be no more.
Healing is not magic. It is the compassionate intervention of God. When Jesus healed, He often connected the healing to faith, to His authority, and to the kingdom. The apostles healed in the name of Jesus, by the power of the Spirit Acts 3:6Acts 4:30.
Praying for the sick is an act of faith and love. It declares that God is good, that sickness is not the final word, and that the kingdom is breaking in. But healing is not guaranteed in every case. God is sovereign. Some are healed in this life. All will be healed in the resurrection.
Deliverance is the ministry of freeing people from demonic oppression or possession. Jesus gave His disciples authority over evil spirits Luke 9:1Luke 10:19. The church continues that ministry in His name.
Deliverance is not theater. It is not about dramatic shouting. It is about the authority of Jesus and the power of the Spirit. It must be done with humility, discernment, and care for the person being helped.
Jesus refused to perform miracles as entertainment. He healed because He loved. He cast out demons because He came to destroy the works of the devil 1 John 3:8. Any ministry of healing or deliverance that seeks spectacle over compassion has missed the point.
Not everyone is healed. This is a mystery and a grief. In those moments, faith does not deny the pain. Faith trusts that God is still good, that the resurrection will bring complete healing, and that the Spirit is present in the suffering.
If you are praying for healing that does not come, do not abandon faith. Keep loving. Keep trusting. Keep hoping. The Spirit is with you in the waiting.
