History is not a random series of events. It is the Father’s plan unfolding. From Eden to the new creation, one purpose moves: the gathering of a people for the Father’s glory through the Son by the Spirit.
The Father’s plan has recognizable movements.
Creation: The Father creates a good world and places human beings in it as His image-bearers. The stage is set.
Fall: Humanity believes the lie about the Father and rebels. The world is fractured. Sin, death, and curse enter. But even in the fall, the Father promises redemption. The seed of the woman will crush the serpent’s head.
Israel: The Father calls a people through Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. He gives them the Law, the land, and the prophets. Israel is the Father’s firstborn son, a people through whom the Messiah will come and the nations will be blessed.
Christ: The Father sends His Son in the fullness of time. The Son lives, dies, rises, ascends, and reigns. In Christ, the Father’s plan reaches its decisive moment. Redemption is accomplished.
Church: The Father gathers a new people from every nation. The church is the Father’s household, the community of adopted sons and daughters. The Spirit empowers this people to proclaim the gospel and live as citizens of the coming kingdom.
Consummation: The Father completes His plan. Jesus returns. The dead are raised. The wicked are judged. The new heaven and new earth are established. The Father is all in all. The family is finally home.
This grand narrative is not an afterthought. It was planned. “He made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, to be put into effect when the times reach their fulfillment — to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ” Ephesians 1:9-10.
Your life is part of this story. You are not an accident. You are not a spectator. You are a participant in the Father’s eternal plan. Your faith, your struggles, your service, and your hope all fit into the movement from creation to new creation.
Memory Verse: Ephesians 1:9-10 — He made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, to be put into effect when the times reach their fulfillment.
Action Step: Draw a timeline of the Father’s plan from creation to consummation. Place your own life somewhere on it.
Exercise: How does knowing history is the Father’s plan change the way you interpret current events and personal trials?
